“Macaroni Carnival” is a creative experiential workshop for children. It aims to facilitate understanding of the folklore and nutritional habits of Cretan people and their connection to the ancient Greek celebration of Anthestiria and the consumption of spaghetti as a reference to the worship of the dead that was popular in this period. During the workshop, the children become cooks and collectively prepare a special type of macaroni (Skioufichta) to honor the Carnival.
The purpose of the workshop is firstly to comprehend the relationship between the celebration and the tradition. And secondly to realize that these celebrations were closely related to some specific traditional foods.
